WELCOME, to the Family Surgery Waiting Room, we are anxious to be
of service to you. With your help, we can make your waiting time more
comfortable. The following suggestions will enable us to do a better job for
you.
PLEASE IDENTIFY YOURSELF with the clerk at the desk. This will help us in relaying all messages from other family members as well as from your surgeon, the operating room and the recovery room.
AFTER PATIENTS HAVE BEEN ESCORTED TO THE OPERATING ROOM, their clothes are given to their Families or Friends in the waiting room. Family members will then be responsible for returning these items to the patient.
IF YOU CHANGE SEATS, please advice the clerk at the desk, so that the seating chart is updated (this will enable the doctor to locate the family/visitors of the patient) Seats are not assigned or reserved.
WHEN YOU LEAVE THIS AREA FOR ANY REASON, please check out with the clerk at the desk, and then check in when you return. When leaving please take all personal belongings with you.
Because surgery schedules are subject to change, your family members may
be in surgery longer than expected. However, should you be concerned about the length of time a patient has been in surgery, or the recovery room, please request that the clerk check for you.
Sometimes it becomes necessary for us to leave the room unattended for a few minutes while we escort patients or families elsewhere. During this time PLEASE DO NOT USE OR ANSWER THE TELEPHONES on the desk. To get to a public telephone, exit the Surgery Waiting room, turn left, and go to the end of the corridor where immediately to you right, you will see a bank of public telephones.
Occasionally, the surgery schedule is so full that there are not enough seats available for the friends and family members of all patients. On such days we may need to ask some members to wait elsewhere. Additional seating is available in the lobby of Mitchell Hospital, and we will see that messages regarding surgery reach you there.
THE FAMILY SURGERY WAITING ROOM CLOSES AT 7:00 PM. If your family member is still in the operating room or recovery room at this time, you will be directed to a designated area where you may continue to wait. You will continue to receive information regarding the patient.
FOOD - In the reception area we ask that you limit to drinks only. Coffee is available in the back area of the waiting room.
PARKING DISCOUNT TICKETS - If this is an outpatient procedure the Recovery Room personnel will give you a parking discount sticker when you pick up your family member. If the patient is an inpatient please ask the clerk for a sticker.
SURVEY - So that we may server you better, please fill out a survey form and return it to the clerk at the desk in the envelope provided.
