Sid Colton's Surgery and Recovery Page
7.22.99 Thursday, , Sid is at work at SSA each day
about 8:00-10:00am, and will be increasing that time next
week. White blood cell count has returned to normal for
the first time since early April.
7.15.99 Thursday, 4:00pm, The nurse Rita at The U of C Center
for Advanced Medicine, general surgery clinic, has today removed Sid's surgical
staples. There is only some temporary paper tape there that will fall out
in a day or two. Dr. Arenas has given Sid permission to drive. Sid has already
driven to and from today's appointment. Sid plans on being at work at SSA
each day, starting out for only an hour or so daily, beginning this Monday July 19,
1999. He will be increasing his daily hours as appropriate.
6.30.99 Wednesday, 10:00am, Sid leaves the Hospital and goes home! Sid should be
driving his car in two weeks and fully recovered in six weeks.
Phone calls at 773-643-7164 and visitors to his Regents Park apartment are extremely welcome!
6.29.99 Tuesday, 3:30pm, Sid now reports that that Wednesday June 30th is the
expected day of release.
6.29.99 Tuesday, 10:30am, Sid reports that the only remaining connection now
is an iv tube and that he has started a liquid diet. Additionally, he'll be on solid foods by tonight and be disconnected from the iv tube soon. (And Sid actually read *gasp* 2 pages in a paper
book named "Cinderalla")
6.28.99 Monday, 1:00pm, I've been visiting Sid at the hospital with the laptop.
I'll try to bring a laptop by daily or so for Sid to read his email until
I leave for Iowa on Friday. Sid is doing well and visitors are welcomed.
6.26.99 Saturday, 2:45pm, Sid has been moved to the fourth floor to be nearer his
team of doctors.
The new room number is: TN411 (fourth floor north). Sid's phone number there is 753-3671; you can also email him, he will be able to check his email monday and maybe tuesday. Sid is still on IV foods, he'll begin liquid foods on Monday. Visiting hours are 8am-8pm for the duration of Sid's time there. Also, I found it was easiest to enter at the front lobby of Mitchell Hospital on Maryland (take the elevator to the 2nd floor) and go to the nformation desk.
Old Announcements:
The Family/Friends Waiting Room (where you can ask where TN411 is) is
J-103: 120 yards south of the U of C Bookstore on Ellis in the Surgery/Brain Research Pavilion. Expected stay left in the hospital is about five to seven days. Expected full recovery time is six weeks.
